Food for thought: The Love Tank hosts HIV PrEP research dinners

The Love Tank is hosting community-based dinners to better understand the HIV PrEP needs of Black queer men, in a research collaboration with the University of Durham.

The Love Tank's Research Programme Coordinator, Phil Samba, is undertaking the research as part of a fellowship with the University, that aims to build the research capacity of community health activists.

Phil says:

"Hosting dinners like this for Black queer men, rather than more traditional focus groups, is a valuable way of including our perspectives and creating safe spaces for us to freely talk about sexual health. They provide supportive peer-led environments where we can talk about what new HIV prevention tools mean to us in reality."

Dr Ben Weil, Head of Research and Community Knowledge Generation at The Love Tank says:

"As new formulations of HIV PrEP become more widely available it is essential that we further understand the barriers and facilitators to accessing and using these HIV prevention methods. Phil's leadership through this fellowship ensures key community knowledge informs roll-out of the injectable PrEP."
