MPOX cases increasing: new data from UKHSA
New figures from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) released today show a sharp increase in the numbers of MPOX cases diagnosed (formerly known as monkeypox) in the UK.
In January 2026 56 cases were diagnosed, with the majority of cases in men who have sex with men in London.
Dr Will Nutland, Executive Director at The Love Tank says:
“The new data reminds us all that MPOX is still a concern and that continued activity to offer routine vaccination is essential. Vaccination offers good protection against MPOX and significantly reduces the severity of symptoms in individuals who acquire MPOX”.
MPOX vaccination is available to eligible groups for free through NHS sexual health clinics.
